Celebrants network in record numbers

A terrific agenda for the first network meeting of 2012; enjoying a meal prior at the Bluewater Grill; members listening attentively to WA Rep Alan Milson.
It was a very warm Wednesday evening in February for the first WA AFCC network meeting. The Australian Federation of Civil Celebrants is the only national celebrant organisation and over 60 members and non-members turned out in droves to hear the latest news and catch up with their friends and colleagues.
We had arranged a really informative agenda with celebrants hearing about new software to assist them in creating all the required legal paperwork before one of our members shared a very special story, having us all in complete admiration of her skills and empathy. WA Rep Alan Milson shared the AFCC's position on marriage equality and answered questions from the floor. I'm very pleased and proud to see my association prepared to make a public statement in support of marriage equality. I'm sure there will be more news on this front in the coming year. Alan and AFCC President Lance Tapsell then shared the latest news from the committee, Ongoing Professional Development opportunities, the new registration fee for celebrants set to be introduced in the coming year and clarification on the interpretation of a calendar month. Celebrants also received information about some of the latest courses and information courtesy of Relationships Australia and heard about some great DVDs and workbooks developed by the Australian Government to support relationship education.
It was a great opportunity for celebrants to network with each other and almost half attending the meeting also joined us for dinner at the Bluewater Grill earlier in the evening. A special thank you to Natalie Compton, Wedding and Family Event Coordinator who took the time to meet with celebrants and show us the ceremony area. Heathcote and the Bluewater Grill are a popular place for ceremonies and receptions in Perth.
